As students with Cerebral Visual Impairment (CVI) grow, so do their capacities for complexity, novelty, and independent navigation of their environments. But how do we scaffold these changes while preserving access and promoting progress?
This webinar explores the intentional un-adaptation of learning environments as a powerful method for fostering functional vision and compensatory skill development in students with CVI. You will learn how to thoughtfully shift seating, alter visual complexity, and track performance through data to support progression, from controlled to natural settings. Discussion topics in this webinar include what “un-adapting” an environment means and why it matters, how to safely and gradually increase complexity in a controlled way, ways to monitor for regression and recovery as a natural part of growth, and real-world examples of student progress tied to environmental shifts.
Designed for Teachers of the Visually Impaired, related service providers, and educators supporting students with CVI, this webinar provides both theoretical frameworks and practical strategies rooted in Universal Design and the CVI Characteristics.
This webinar was delivered as part of the CVI for the TVI Series in September 2025.
